the kiss of the sun for pardon
This is a blog about our garden. We are trying to grow broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, green beans, spinach, rainbow chard, lettuce, rhubarb, carrots and lots of herbs (basil, rosemary, parsley, sage, thyme, ‘memory’ herb and mint). The house also came with lemon, apricot and nectarine trees. Plus one native fruit tree that we can’t recognise.
So far we have only had luck with the broccoli, thyme, rosemary and parsley. Failed crops include beetroot and coriander. The cauliflower may also be a failure, but I haven’t quite given up hope yet.
We have a massive backyard with some impressive garden beds that were clearly once used to harvest some serious crops. The soil is healthy, it is dark and rich and full of worms. It feels like too much of a blessing to let it sit unsowed.
Now, with change of season, flowers are springing up of their own accord all over the place. We are also going to plant flowers, and started today with zinnias.
We’re weaving our gardening in between working quite a lot, as a lot of us do, and Winter has been hard. But Spring has sprung! Halle-friggen-lujah. We have sun-kissed cheeks to prove it.
